The room itself was perfectly serviceable, clean and up to date.
However, the real jawdropper was the building itself.
The hotel is comprised of two buildings adjacent to one another, but they've built a glass atrium between the two 1890's neo-gothic buildings that once housed wool and wheat manufacturing. Our room opened up onto the atrium, giving us pretty stellar views.
Location-wise, the Intercontinental Melbourne sits on Collins street in the heart of Melbourne's central business district, close to shopping, interesting architecture and of course, Melbourne's handy dandy tram system.
If you hike a bit north, you will walk through Melbourne's Street Art walk, which has interesting graffiti of all styles.
In short, the Intercontinental Melbourne may not be to the same heights as the Park Hyatt Sydney, but it makes for quite the sight and spectacle.
