Singapore SQ890 A330-300 Economy Review and Intercontinental Hong Kong
This is a combo review of both the Economy Singapore flight (very similar to my previous post, just a different plane) as well as the Intercontinental Hong Kong.

This hotel is now the IHG Regent Hong Kong and was under construction at the time I visited, so there was pretty loud construction (on the side of the hotel I was facing :( ), but I was still very impressed by the experience.
But first, the flight.
Generally, the excellent service and great seats were consistent between the two flights. On this flight, I was in 48C. This was also an aisle seat, but because the A330 is a little narrower and is a 2-4-2 layout, so at least I had fewer neighbors.
The food was not what I'd expected from a US American breakfast, but honestly it was very good. Doubly so when you compare it to normal meals from US airlines.
Once I arrived in HKG and after a harrowing taxi trip, I arrived at my lodging in Hong Kong, the Intercontinental Hong Kong.
As I mentioned in my review of my stay at the Intercontinental - London Park Lane, I have the highest level of IHG status at the time, Platinum as well as the Intercontinental Ambassador status. But I'd been disappointed last time and was expecting the same again.
I was wrong!
I was set up in a junior suite, with an unfortunate look out over the construction next door. However, the soundproofing was pretty great and it wasn't a bother. In addition to the comfy king bed and office area, I was surprised to see a free mobile for use while you're visiting. While I had international data, it's a very nice option for those willing to switch to a different phone.
While I stayed in Hong Kong, I took the obligatory trip across the bay to Hong Kong Island and went up The Peak Tram to see Hong Kong from a different perspective.
Had to do it.
I also took a trip out to Lantau Island via the Ngong Ping 360 gondolas. It was truly beautiful and amazing to get out of the city while also being so close.
On my final night in Hong Kong, I went to the Lobby Lounge at the Intercontinental Hong Kong where I had this wonderful drink, a reference to The Dark Knight Returns's jump from the IFC into Victoria Bay Harbor.
As I wrapped up my time in Hong Kong, I had some time to reflect on a few things:
- Hong Kong is an absolutely beautiful city, with a bustling metropolis and some truly beautiful natural surroundings.
- I was extremely fortunate to be able to travel like this, for as long as I did.
- I was starting to get extremely homesick.
This was nearly a three week solo trip and while I enjoy solo travel, it was a loooong time and I missed my friends, family and boyfriend pretty darn terribly at this point. So I had a nice in-room dinner (the burger was exactly what I needed, if not terribly inventive), got a massage, and chilled in the pool to close out Hong Kong.
Next, I was onto Tokyo, my last stop of the trip. Now, this flight was booked with cash on Vanilla Air, a low cost carrier. I was scheduled to spend a few days and then fly home on economy class in Japan Airlines. However, I got lucky while in Singapore and I noticed that First Class availability had opened up and I jumped on it. So in my next and next-to-last post, I'll cover that flight as well as my time in Tokyo.
